Club Values

Our Club Values are what we believe are important in the way we conduct ourselves. We use them in many ways that benefit ourselves and the community around us. Members are able to measure themselves against these values, a tool for reflection and also planning. As a committee we also refer to the values when making decisions and deciding what direction the club is to develop in next.

We are a welcoming, caring, and inclusive club for players of all backgrounds, beliefs, and abilities. Supporting the community and wider university is also crucial to this value.

We have a passion to succeed at the highest level possible, aiming to continually develop the club. Ensuring an environment where our members feel valued and supported by each other.

Through humility, kindness, generosity, and pride we aim to continually raise the profile and reputation of the club.

Examples of Implementing Our Club Values

Respect

Our members' responsibility for their own actions is emphasised regularly, to ensure they conduct themselves respectfully in all aspects of their life. The club has acted on its respect for hockey provisions at UoN and has expanded its outreach to the wider university community by supporting the running of IMS leagues (intramural) and continuing to coach Just Play sessions (beginner). We have entered our own Development Squad into the league and support the IMS Exec in running the leagues. This has created a stronger connection with the wider hockey community at the university, as well as encouraging more people to get involved with hockey, delivering to all abilities.

Progression

The club is progressing in all directions of its delivery - performance, participation and social. The club has England Hockey Premier Division status, and we’re currently the only men’s university side to have it, as well as the 2nd XI also competing in the Midlands Conference. In the 22/23 season, we were crowned BUCS Champions, and the club topped the BUCS points table for men’s hockey by over 40 points. In addition, we now have a 7th XI in BUCS, and a Development Squad competing in the IMS leagues, increasing our membership to around 160. This means more competition, more to celebrate and more people that are a part of it.

Integrity

The integrity of our club is important to us, and we are proud of how our profile has developed in recent years. Our members continue to demonstrate this value in supporting the men’s health charity, Movember, raising over £60,000 across our last four campaigns. In addition to this, supporting each other is a huge part of who we are as a club. In May of 2022, the club travelled to Lee Valley Hockey Centre in London to support our 5th XI in their EH National Cup Final against Penzance - this was an incredible day bringing members of our club together and showing the country what this club, and sport, means to us (as well as bringing home some silverware)! This value ensures that we aren’t only living our other values 90% of the time, but 100% of the time.
