Men’s Coaching Team

The men’s club coaching team is made up of external and player coaches. The 1st XI and 2nd XI are lead by external coaches to develop their national league standard, while other teams are coached by 1st XI and 2nd XI players, supported by James Bateman.

 

James Bateman - head coach

Assistant Coach 2019-2021 : Head Coach Aug 2021 - Present

Joining the Green & Gold coaching team in 2019, James became Head Coach in 2021. James, or JB as he is more affectionately known, brings a wealth of experience to the programme having previously been a teacher and Director of Hockey at Oakham School. Alongside University of Nottingham commitments, JB is the England U18 Boys Assistant Coach and in 2022 completed the European Hockey Federation’s Top Coaches Programme.

 

Christian Battye - 2ND XI HEAD COACH

A new face at the university for 2023/24, Christian joins as the mens second team coach.

In addition to extensive experience within club hockey, Christian worked within the EH junior pathway at the East Midlands Performance Centre from 2018 - 2021, becoming Head Coach in 2019.

Christian also completed the GB Hockey Advanced Coach Programme, graduating in summer 2020 as part of cohort 3.
